Wandering around South of Coptic Cairo at dusk, when the Ramadan fast was breaking, I was invited into a small mudbrick slum dwelling by this very friendly group of young Egyptians, who shared their delicious communal meal with me. The menu - fried chicken strips and a meatball and macaroni baked casserole, all homemade and ate all sitting on a double bed. The television played the whole time; when they tried to turn a fan on (it was boiling), the fuses blew.
